3rd Grade
Mrs. Giannettino
Welcome Back! Mrs. Giannettino’s 3rd Grade class has started an exciting new school year. We started the year by meeting new friends and getting used to the new classroom. We just got finished reading How to be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days by Stephen Manes and learned that being perfect is not much fun! In Language Arts, we look forward to reading the stories in our series and reading some new chapter books. We wrote fabulous letters about ourselves and our summer vacation.
In Social Studies, we are traveling the around the world. Along the way, we will be learning about the continents, oceans, compass rose, and many other world vocabulary terms. On our visit to each continent, we will also find out which animals have habitats there and the population of people. Soon we will travel back to North America where we will begin to learn about different types of communities.
In Science, we are learning about the life cycles of animals and eggs. We look forward to becoming scientists and studying the different parts of an egg. As the year goes on, we will continue to work with lab partners on various experiments. Also, we will be studying animals in their natural habitats and environments. In Math, we are Counting Through the Continents as we practice our addition and subtraction facts. We will begin using our math journals to help in answering our open ended questions. We look forward to learning subtracting across zero, odds and evens, ordinal numbers, adding, and time. We especially can’t wait to learn multiplication and division!
Excitement grows each day when learning how to write a new letter of the alphabet in cursive. I know we are going to have a wonderful, fun school year together in Room 121!
Mr. Studer
Hello, our class has begun our journey through third grade. We started the year with some fun activities designed to allow us to get to know one another. We each completed a picture biography to share with our friends and Mr. Studer made a collage about his life. We reviewed some map skills while learning about the many exciting places we visited this summer. Our busy travelers visited over a dozen different states and several international locations. We also traced the path and origin of the hurricanes that have been in the news lately. This served as an introduction to the travels we will take during Social Studies.
We are learning to work cooperatively as a class in both small and large groups. The class made a banner to congratulate Mrs. Aufiero and we constructed funny stories from a simple opening sentence. We are practicing listening to, reading and following directions and an Amelia Bedelia book showed us that is not always an easy task.
Our Language Arts experience will include reading, writing and speaking. We will read and learn from our Treasures books and incorporate interesting chapter books. We will develop our public speaking skills as we share some of our different writing assignments with our friends.
In Math, we previewed problem-solving strategies that we will work on throughout the year. We will start the year practicing our addition and subtraction facts and build toward division and multiplication. We will have fun with numbers and connect our lessons to everyday life wherever possible.
In Science, our inquisitive young scientists will study life cycles of animals. We will also learn about planet Earth, the environment and our role as habitants here.
We are looking forward to a great year where each day is an opportunity to enjoy learning and develop our problem solving skills.
Mrs. Danna
Welcome back to school! We are looking forward to a wonderful year full of learning. The third graders are getting used to new routines and procedures as we learn to get ourselves organized. We have packed our bags and are starting to travel around the world. In social studies, we are learning to read maps and recognize continents and oceans. As we build our social studies skills we are strengthening our addition and subtraction facts in math and using them to travel through the continents.
Soon we will begin writing in our Writer’s Workshop and we are looking forward to presenting our work.
The third graders are very excited about learning how to write in cursive. Soon we will be able to write longer sentences and paragraphs. We will continue through the year growing in so many different ways.
