The Kindergarten classes have gotten off to a great start!  In September we concentrated on “Back to School activities”.  This included getting the children comfortable with our school, familiarizing them with daily classroom procedures, and each other.  We also began working on social skills such as sharing and respect for one another.  During the month of September we began identifying all the letters of the alphabet and the numbers 1-10.  Throughout the school year we will study the letters of the alphabet individually in greater detail.  Some of the theme units we concentrated on were Spiders and Apples.  We studied the characteristics of spiders and how they differ from insects.  We learned about the different types and parts of an apple, then concluded our apple theme by making applesauce!

       In October, we will study the letters, p, s, and m in their beginning and final positions.  They will also learn how to recognize these letters in their capital and lowercase forms, as well as the sounds they make.  We will also learn the sight words, we, the, like, and a.   Some of the theme units we will be concentrating on are Bats, Fire Safety, and Pumpkins.

       In November, the letters we will continue studying are t and i.  Our class will learn the sight words, see and go.  Theme units for November will include Scarecrows, Harvest, and Thanksgiving.  Our November theme units will be concluded by making butter for the harvest season.

 Supplies needed at school:

        *Large book bag or backpack (large enough to hold a folder-               no rolling backpacks please)

        *1 folder with two pockets

        *1 package of 8 wide tip washable markers (primary colors)

        *1 package of Expo Dry Erase Markers

        *6 glue sticks

        *1-4oz. bottle of white school glue(no glitter glue please)

        *lunch box or lunch bag

*1 large box of tissues (bring 2^nd day of school)

*1 package of brown lunch bags

*1 package of large white paper plates

        *nutritional snack –including a drink (daily)

Supplies needed at home:

        *Crayons

        *Scissors

        *Glue / Glue Sticks

        *Pencils

        *Unlined paper 

***Note: Please print your child’s name on all supplies.  Please send a healthy snack and drink with your child on the 1^st day of school.  Please do not send in any other supplies other than those listed here!!          Thank You!!
