The students at Berkley School have
begun their first art project. Each grade is focusing on the same
element of art- line.
The Kindergarteners learned about the
many kinds of lines while reading "Harold and the Purple Crayon.
The First Graders
were introduced to artist, Paul Klee. As they looked at his artwork they
also learned about a very important line- the horizon line.
The Second Graders looked at work by Joan
Miro. We focused on the different kinds of lines and shapes he used in
his work.
The children in Third Grade reviewed
different kinds of lines while looking at Russian architecture. They are
designing their own buildings after having been inspired by Russian
buildings.
The Fourth Graders were introduced to
artist, Piet Mondrian. They observed his use of vertical and horizontal
lines and saw that he used a limited number of colors. They are
beginning to draw animals that have a twist of Mondrian.
The Fifth Graders learned a little about
advertising after looking at iPod ads. We reviewed the terms outline and
silhouette. They are creating their own ads about themselves, in the
iPod style.
