* The New Milford Board of Education requires all 3rd grade students to have a physical. These should be scheduled with your child's personal physician. In the event that your child does not have medical insurance coverage, an appointment can be made with our school physician. Information about school physicals will be going home in October.
* Please remember to call the school if your child is unable to attend due to sickness. Include your child's name, his/her class and the reason for the absence.
Administering Medications
The administration of
prescribed medication to a student during school hours will be permitted only
when failure to take such medicine would jeopardize the health of the student,
or the student would not be able to attend school if the medicine were not made
available to him/her during school hours. Medication shall include all
medicines prescribed by a physician, both over the counter and prescription.
Before any medication is administered to or by any pupil during school hours a written request from the parent/guardian and the physician is required. The written request must include the following:

The written request for prescribed medication will be kept on file in the School Nurse's office. All medications shall be securely stored and kept in the original labeled containers. All medications shall be administered by the School Nurse, or the parent/guardian.
Students may not carry any medication on their person for purpose of self administration. There are exceptions to that rule: Inhalers, and Epi-Pen for life threatening conditions such as asthma, bee stings and/or severe food allergies. Inhalers and Epi-Pen may only be carried by students who demonstrate appropriate knowledge of technique and administration. A written doctor's order along with a completed Self-Administration Form by parent/guardian is required. This form indicates the student is responsible for medication administration, and has been instructed in the proper use of the inhaler or Epi-Pen, and may carry his/her inhaler or Epi-Pen with him/her at all times.
** The New Jersey Dept of Health is recommending that children in grades K-12 receive an annual Influenze (flu) vaccine. Flu is an airborne virus, which is highly contagious, thus making schools and other public places highly susceptible to this illness.
Vaccination is associated with reduction in influenza-related respiratory illness, physician visits, and related absenteeism in school. Please consult your pediatrician about this important vaccine. The Flu season can start as early as October and extend through May.
