ART

The Kindergartners are busy learning about Pop Art while reviewing primary and secondary colors. They are creating a Pop Art Pizza. They chose a secondary color for their crust. They colored on some sauce. Now they are practicing their cutting skills by adding cheese, red pepperoni, blue meatballs, and yellow mushrooms. Because of all the gluing we had to place the pizzas on a drying rack when they were finished. They decided that was the pizza oven and could even smell them cooking!

The First Grade students are beginning a project based on Picasso’s painting titled, “The Three Musicians”. We shared a book about Picasso and learned about one of his styles of art called “cubism”. They are creating their own picture of three musicians. They are also getting a lot of practice on their cutting skills. Their whole picture is cutting shapes out of construction paper.

The Second Grade children are learning about the artist Henri Matisse. We shared a book, “Henri Matisse, King of Color”. We discussed his painting titled, “Goldfish”. They are beginning a collage inspired by Matisse’s artwork. They will be using paint, pastels, construction paper, and markers for this project.

The Third Graders are learning about the Pop Art movement as well. They were introduced to the artist, Andy Warhol. We looked at his artwork and saw how he was inspired by the products and people around him. They are in the process of creating a new label for a popular brand of soda. Their new cans will look great next to the Kindergarten pizza!

The Fourth Graders are finishing their 3D portraits. Once all the finishing touches are put on they will move on to their next project. They will also learn about the artist, Henri Matisse. They will look at a lot of his work and then we will focus on his painting titled,” The Purple Robe”. They will be creating their own painting in his style.

The Fifth Grade students are almost finished with their Paper Mache monsters. We have been working on these for a very long time but they look great! Walt Disney Studios may want some of them for their next movie!
