Media Center Program
The
Schedule
Students in grades K-5 will visit the Media Center on a weekly basis.
The classes in K-2 and 3-5 will alternate meeting between the library and
the computer lab. Students will borrow library books in the library every other
week. The Media Specialist will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher
to create multimedia projects in the computer lab.
The
Curriculum
Technology will be integrated across the curriculum. Students will be
introduced to many programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
Power Point, Microsoft Publisher, Type II Learn, and Kidspiration.
Students will also have the opportunity to navigate the Internet to find
information and do research on specific topics.
Students in grades
K-5 will also be introduced to the database Athena, which is our online catalog
system. Students will be able to use
this database to find materials in our library.
Students will learn how to do an author, subject and title search to
identify the books that we have in our collection.
The Media specialist will introduce how to read a call number and
independently find a book in the library.
The Collection
The
All materials are selected according to criteria relating to the appropriateness
of content and the durability. Donations of books may be accepted at a
later date as we continue to update our collection. Individuals wishing to
donate books or media might contact individual teachers.
Student Loans
The normal check-out period for students is two weeks.
Overdue Books
When a student has an overdue book, he or she cannot borrow another book
from the library until the overdue book is returned. No fines are charged
for overdue books and children will be able to reserve a book during their
regularly scheduled class. Reserved books can be taken out once the overdue
book is returned.
Lost or Damaged Books
The full replacement cost will be charged for any lost materials. Books
not returned or paid for by the end of the school year will cause the
child's report card to be held by the office.
If a book is damaged while checked out to a student, all efforts will be made to
try to repair the book. If the book is damaged beyond repair, it will be
treated like a lost book and full replacement cost will be charged.
