Basic Skills Welcome to Basic Skills! We are ready for the upcoming school year! The Basic Skills Improvement (BSI) program provides supplemental instruction to children in first through fifth grades. These students gain additional support in the areas of Language Arts/Literacy and Math. The goal of our program is to improve and maintain proficiency in those areas. BSI is conducted in a small-group setting. We work “hand-in-hand” with the classroom teacher to help ensure that specific curriculum goals are being set for the individual student. Each student has an individual plan that provides a framework and helps drive the instruction for each student, personally. Unit assessments also occur to help evaluate and check for mastery of the skills. Group lessons, individual lessons, content-related projects, and fun, educational games contribute to the overall framework.
