Second Grade Mrs. Bonelli, Miss Guardino, Mrs. Madger, Mrs. Woletz
The Second Graders are feeling very festive and can’t believe that it’s already December! Since the end of November signified the end of our first trimester, our new month begins with Report Cards and Parent Teacher Conferences! The Second Grade teachers are happy to be meeting with you and discussing your child’s progress in school this year. Please remember to arrive on time since conferences are limited to 15 minutes and we have a lot to tell you! We all began Unit 3 in Language Arts this month, which brings with it: a Liberian folk tale about the human body, a humorous story about Police Officer Buckle and his dog Gloria, and a non-fiction selection about the Alvin Ailey Kids Dance School in New York City. In our stories we will be looking for context clues, identifying causes and effects, and making inferences. We will also be concentrating on Grammar skills such as: present and past tense verbs, abbreviations, commas, and subject-verb agreement. As you listen to your child read aloud at home, encourage them to use as much intonation and expression as possible while reading-it makes it more enjoyable for both the reader and the listener! Now that we have learned about tens and ones and regrouping, we are moving on to skip counting, odd and even numbers, greater than/less than, estimating, and two digit addition and subtraction. Please provide your child with opportunities to practice any skills he or she may be having difficulty with at home, and remember to keep reviewing those Math Booklets and flash cards until your child knows their Math Facts! Once again, don’t forget about our half-day dismissals and conferences on Tuesday, Dec. 9 thru Friday, Dec. 12, and the half-day on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd. We hope you all have a very Winter-ful December! J
