World Language
Hola! My name is Sra. Perez and I am the new Spanish teacher at Gibbs. All the children have made an easy transition from French to Spanish and I am very proud of them! They have all learned about Christopher Columbus and the early Spanish settlers in Florida and California. They have explored cultural celebrations in the Hispanic world like the Day of the Dead and Three Kings Day. During the first half of the year we even managed to see two films in Spanish and listen to some Spanish music.
The First and Second graders have learned the names of many animals. They studied the names for the parts of the body and now they are learning the Spanish words for the five senses. We have read four books so far!
The Third Graders are very enthusiastic about learning Spanish. They have learned the names of classroom objects and are now working on their numbers. They can even do math problems in Spanish!
The Fourth and Fifth Graders have also learned the names of classroom objects. They have learned dates and are very good at following directions in Spanish. They can exchange greetings and can ask and respond to questions in Spanish.
We are looking forward to lots more learning in the second half of the year!
