GENERAL LIBRARY INFORMATION Mrs. Linda Keesing, Educational Media Specialist Mrs. Loraine Kriss, Library Aide
Phone: 201-262-0172 x2015
Welcome to the New Milford High School Library! We have a lot to offer, and we hope to see you often - either with your whole class or on your own! Remember that you may opt to spend part of your lunch period (after you eat) in the library. Please ask the lunch duty teacher for a pass. You may also use our facility before homeroom or after school.
While I encourage you to become independent users of the library, I am certainly available and approachable to provide assistance if you need it.
The library is a shared resource for the school community. Please be considerate users! We do not allow food or drink in the facility. Please help keep the library neat.
Borrowing Policy: In order to borrow any library material from our school library, you need to have a valid card in your own name from the New Milford Public Library. The borrower is liable for any loss or damage to any books checked out to him/her. If you have never had a card from the New Milford Public Library, please go to the public library to request one. It is free of charge. Bring along proof that you are a New Milford resident. If you are under 18 years old, you will need the signature of a parent/legal guardian. If you have lost your New Milford Public Library card, please get a new one (expect to pay $5.00).
The loan period at our school for most books is 28 days. Past issues of magazines and other pamphlets circulate for a period of 14 days. In special cases, a reference book may be borrowed overnight. A fine of $.10/day will be assessed for late returns. If you need to renew material from a school library (within BELS), please ask Mrs. Keesing or Mrs. Kriss to do so before the due date; in most cases, we will be able to renew your item. If you need to renew material from a public library (BCCLS), please call the New Milford Public Library (201-262-1221), and request your renewal there (regardless of which library loaned you the material).
You may return books and other materials from any library to our high school library.
Inter-Library Loans Our students and staff may borrow library materials from other BELS and BCCLS libraries by filling out a simple form. This free service will deliver requested materials to our school three days each week throughout the school year. It is a service provided to anyone who holds a valid public library card that is free of fines. After using the material, the borrower simply returns it to Mrs. Keesing or Mrs. Kriss who will send it back to the lending library.
Internet Policy Our computers are available for educational purposes; that is, they may be used for research and for homework assignments. They are not, for example, to be used to participate in fantasy sports leagues or to shop on e-Bay. In order to use the computers in our school library, students must read, sign, and return a copy of the Board of Education's Acceptable Use Policy Agreement. This form must be signed by a parent/legal guardian as well. The form will be kept on file during the years a student remains in the system.
