New Milford High School Project Graduation
WHAT IS PROJECT GRADUATION?
Project Graduation is a full night of fun-filled supervised activities, planned, funded, directed, and coordinated by the parents of each graduating class. Every year the program changes, according to the creative inspiration of each Project Graduation committee. The evening begins approximately 20 minutes after Graduation Ceremonies have ended. The graduates return their caps & gowns, say goodbye to their families, then board a bus to an undisclosed destination. Activities usually start with dinner at a special location, (Mt. Fuji, Spirit of NJ, etc) and then move on to another facility, where most of the evening’s amusement takes place (Health Spa, etc.). The evening ends sometime the next morning (about 7:00 a.m.) when the students enjoy a hearty breakfast and finally return home, tired, happy, but most importantly, SAFE!!
WHY PROJECT GRADUATION
By 1987, serious or fatal accidents involving students had risen to an alarming rate (the direct results of unsupervised festivities on Graduation Night). Parents and school administrators sought for a way to save their children from a similar fate. Out of this desperate need, Project Graduation was born. It began as an experimental idea, with just a few schools taking part, but due to its glowing success over the years, the amount of schools adopting this program has grown by leaps and bounds throughout New Jersey.
